The Way of Faith
Abraham is known as “the father of faith.” He achieved great things simply because he believed what God had said to him. God was pleased with Abraham because he had faith. And God blessed Abraham and his descendants. By faith in Jesus we have also become Abraham’s descendants and are participants in the promise. The promise belongs to us!
God’s Promise
(1)The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
(2)“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
(3)I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
(4)So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.
Make a list of the things God promises to Abraham.
(6)So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
(7)Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.
(8)Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”
(9)So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Abraham’s Relationship With God & How it Affects Us
Romans 4:13 (NIV)
(13)It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
Romans 4:16-24 (NIV)
(16)Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
(17)As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.
(18)Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
(19)Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.
(20)Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,
(21)being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
(22)This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”
(23)The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone,
(24)but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
